Withers Cove, Lake Wylie, North Carolina, September 6, 2003

This 2000 RX exploded with its owner aboard. The owner was launched into the air and luckily landed in the water. He was concious immediately after the incident, but didn't remember what happened. He was hospitalized with back injuries.

The boat had been experiencing problems and it is thought that the owner was trying to start it and it had a fuel vapors in the bilge. The gas tank did not ignite and there was very little fire. The deck has completely separated from the hull, the hood with the gauges and mirrors is off to the left, held only by its electrical cables. The owner's eyeglasses were found lying in the hull.
