I believe that this picture was taken at a motel in Bowling Green, Ohio during the family's trip to Omaha in the Summer of 1964.

Mom, Dad, and the four younger kids (Pat, MM, Mike and John) made this trip. I'm pretty sure Dad bought the car specifically for the trip. His car before he bought this one was a 1956 Chevy four door, with the straight six (not the great Chevy V8). By 1964, that car had seen eight hard years, and Dick had painted it Kelly Green. At this time, Tom and Hank were married. I have no idea what Dick was doing that summer.

In the background, you can see the then new, green 1964 Plymouth Savoy 4 door sedan, powered by an all powerful 225 inch slant six. The car was pretty gutless, and the transmission did not shift well. We had a cousin that worked for Chrysler as an Engineer. He helped dad adjust the kickdown, but I think the transmission was badly designed (not by Bob :-). Maybe they spent all their effort on transmissions for Hemi versions.

(I bought this car from Dad in 1970, and drove it only about six months before the transmission blew up. Dad helped me pay for a rebuild. Dad made me sell it to MM in about 1973. She drove it a while and the transmission blew up on her as well.)
