If you zoom in, it will take a few seconds for Google's imaging to fill in all the details.

Note, all the action happened on two GMU campus locations, first out in Manassas, and second at the main Fairfax campus. Use the Google Map's zoom and drag functions and check out the walking at the two locations.

Manassas

The main office of the Department of Applied Information Technology is located on the GMU Prince William campus in Manassas. I expected to simply park and go to the office, and I could have, but I found I needed a copy of my GMU transcript, and the easiest way to get one for the office was to walk to the Registrar's office on the Prince William campus.

The yellow marker pin on the map is a waypoint that I set just after I left the AIT office and Bull Run Hall. Bull Run Hall is just to the left of the pin. The building just to the South West is Occoquan Hall, where the Register is. I wandered a bit trying to find an entrance to the building. I don't remember wandering quite as much as the GPS log track shows, but its not that far off, and the placement of the car on the roads is exact.

Fairfax

I needed to go to the bookstore on the main campus to get the textbook for the class. The department coordinated a parking pass, so I could park and walk to the bookstore. I did not yet have a faculty parking permit, as it takes a while for the approval process to work its way through the university's HR and Departmental organizations.

The blue pin icon is a bit off, it shows me in the middle of the S&T 2 building. I did not go from the parking deck into S&T 2, but I did go right past it.

So my steps on the Fairfax campus were simple:

  1. Park on the parking deck
  2. Walk to the Engineering 1 building and get the parking pass
  3. walk to the Johnson center's bookstore.
  4. get the book.
  5. walk back to the car
  6. drive home.
There was a lot of construction on campus, and some of the direct routes were impossible, so there are detours here and there which increased the walking. I'm pretty sure that I did not walk quite as much as the GPS shows, I assume that is due to errors in the GPS tracking.
