Notes for Bessie (Spouse 2)
the story of Bessie, the oldest sister to Nell etc. My mother had always heard about a relative(now we think it must be Patrick J. Burke-father of all the Burkes)who was married, had 2 girls (theres no indication so far of there being any other older girl besides Bessie) wife died and these girls ended up being taken in by Sophie Tucker(Last of the Red Hot Lovers-some sort of broadway ? star)We have this picture of Bessie that looks like it is from the 1800's and she is dressed (or not) like a Gibson Girl. Really interesting. I'll try and get it to you. We think Bessie may be one the mystery girls mom has always heard about. Sophie Tucker wrote a book called Some of These Days where she supposedly mentions these girls
